Spread across the United Kingdom, fifteen University Air Squadrons provide flying training and military skills to university students considering a future career in the UK Armed Forces, specifically the Royal Air Force.
The University of Birmingham Air Squadron is one of the largest, with approximately 75 students from Aston, Birmingham, Birmingham Central, Coventry, Keele, Staffordshire, Harper Adams, Worcester, Warwick and Wolverhampton Universities.
The UBAS Association was setup in 2021 as a way of nurturing the rich connections between Squadron alumni and current Blue Lions. The vast majority of those who spent their university years with UBAS are now serving in the UK Armed Forces, or are leaders in their line of work in the civilian world.
Our goal is to provide the Squadron with direct links into the hundreds of students who came before them, harnessing the talent that was no-doubt shaped by time spent as a member of UBAS.
We have already amassed over one hundred members since establishing last year, successfully connecting Blue Lions from across the generations at a range of social events so far.
