The Patron of the UBAS Association is Jed Mercurio, best known for the TV drama Line of Duty.
Jed spent two years on UBAS in the late 80s when he was studying Medicine at the University of Birmingham Medical School. His intentions were to specialise in Aviation Medicine.
He left the Royal Air Force in 1992 as a Flying Officer physician, and by 1994 Jed had changed direction into the writing world. Since then of course he has become one of Britain’s most successful TV writers, producers and directors, and his latest series ‘Bodyguard’ and ‘Line of Duty’ have both topped the ratings for UK television drama.
With other credits including Bodies, Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Critical, Strike Back, The Grimleys and Cardiac Arrest, Jed’s work has achieved award wins/nominations at the Golden Globes, Emmys, BAFTAs and more. He was awarded a well deserved OBE in the recent 2021 New Years Honours list for his services to TV drama.
We are delighted that Jed has enthusiastically accepted the invitation to be our Patron, and look forward to welcoming him at one of the Association’s early events.
