Simon Footer

Simon “Foots” Footer is the President of the UBAS Association.

He joined UBAS as a QFI in 2003. Foots had already completed a 20 year career in the Royal Air Force, mainly in the Special Forces role on the C-130 Hercules, culminating in a Squadron Commander tour at RAF Lyneham.

For reasons even he can’t remember, he left the main stream of the Royal Air Force to pursue civilian flying but was persuaded by his Air Officer Commanding at the time to consider becoming a University Air Squadron instructor instead, as a full-time reservist.

Foots agreed to do this for two years. 17 years later in 2021, he departed the  Squadron after serving as the UBAS Chief Flying Instructor or Deputy Officer Commanding.

The reason for this is that UBAS was a fantastic job, with great people and I enjoyed every minute (well most minutes anyway!). I am delighted to be appointed as the first President of the Association and I know we will have a great time.
